Frequently Asked Questions
Last Updated: November 2026

At Carina Organics, we have always been committed to providing high-quality, natural personal care products at fair and accessible prices.

Unfortunately, recent changes to U.S. trade policies have introduced significant tariffs on certain Canadian-made products, including some of our hair care products.

As a small, family-run Canadian company, these changes have presented considerable challenges. We have been working diligently behind the scenes to find a sustainable solution that allows us to continue serving our valued U.S. customers.

We understand that these additional costs are frustrating, and we sincerely appreciate your patience, loyalty and understanding as we navigate these changes.

Below, we have answered some frequently asked questions about how tariffs affect your orders.

1. What is a tariff?

A tariff is a tax imposed by a government on goods imported from another country.

In this case, the United States has introduced additional tariffs on certain products manufactured in Canada.

These charges are collected by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) when eligible goods enter the United States.

Tariffs are government-imposed charges and are not fees established by Carina Organics.

2. Which Carina Organics products are affected?

Currently, the following product categories are subject to an additional 50% U.S. import tariff:

- Shampoos
- Conditioners
- Styling gels
- Shampoo/Body wash combinations

Other Carina Organics products are not currently subject to this specific additional 50% tariff. Standalone body wash products for instance is one of the product categories not subject to these tariffs.

Please note that tariff regulations are subject to change, and we will update this information as necessary.

3. How are tariffs calculated?

The additional tariff is calculated at 50% of the product’s applicable customs value.

For example, a shampoo with a customs value of $14.00 USD would be subject to an additional $7.00 USD tariff.

Example:

Product Price: $14.00 USD

U.S. Tariff (50%): $7.00 USD

Total Product Cost: $21.00 USD

Shipping charges are calculated separately.

4. Why have your prices increased?

To continue making our products available to U.S. customers, we have had to adjust how tariffs are incorporated into our pricing.

Rather than introducing an unexpected 50% charge at checkout, we have chosen to display the total product price, inclusive of applicable tariffs, directly on our website.

This allows customers to understand the cost of their purchase before adding products to their cart.

For transparency, we will include a notice on the affected product pages and our checkout screen.

Carina Organics does not profit from these additional tariff charges.

5. Will I be charged additional tariffs when my order arrives?

No. All orders placed through our U.S. website are shipped Delivered Duty Paid (DDP).

This means applicable tariffs are collected at the time of purchase and handled as part of the import process.

You should not receive an additional tariff bill upon delivery for charges already collected at checkout.

6. Are tariffs refundable if I return my order?

No. Tariff charges are non-refundable.

While eligible products may be returned in accordance with our standard return policy, government-imposed tariff charges collected as part of the original importation are not refundable through Carina Organics.

Any eligible product refund will be calculated separately from the tariff amount.

We encourage customers to review their purchases carefully before placing an order.

7. Why is Carina Organics not absorbing the tariff costs?

As a small, family-run business, absorbing an additional 50% charge on affected products is not financially sustainable.

We have worked hard to maintain fair pricing while continuing to support our employees, suppliers and Canadian manufacturing operations.

Although we understand that these additional costs may affect purchasing decisions, implementing tariff-inclusive pricing allows us to continue offering our products to U.S. customers.

8. Are these tariffs permanent?

At this time, we do not know how long the additional tariffs will remain in effect.

Trade regulations and government policies can change, and we are continuing to monitor developments closely.

Should the applicable tariffs be reduced or removed, we will review our pricing accordingly.

9. Can I purchase Carina Organics products from a U.S. retailer instead?

Availability through U.S. retailers may be limited due to the ongoing trade challenges.

We recommend contacting individual retailers directly to confirm current inventory and availability.

10. Why are some products unaffected by the tariff?

U.S. import tariffs are applied according to specific customs classifications.

As a result, certain product categories may be subject to additional duties while others are not.

Although many of our products are manufactured in Canada, not all fall within the same tariff classifications.

11. What happens if tariffs are removed after I place my order?

Orders are processed according to the applicable charges at the time of importation.

If tariff regulations change after an order has been processed, we cannot guarantee retroactive adjustments or refunds.

Any future pricing changes will be reflected on our website.
